Hon. Samuel Poghisio, MP Kacheliba Constituency is the new Information and Communications minister. The minister took over from Hon. Mutahi Kagwe former Mukurweini constituency MP. The minister was appointed by His Excellency the President on January 8th 2008 when the President named his cabinet after the general elections.
During the handing over ceremony at the ministry’s headquarters, Hon. Poghisio expressed his gratitude to the President for appointing him minister. He also extended his gratitude to the outgoing minister, Hon Mutahi Kagwe for ushering him into office. He commended Hon. Kagwe for his outstanding job in laying a firm foundation in which he would build in moving the ministry forward.
In his speech, Hon Poghisio assured the media of his ministry’s support. “I wish to assure you that my ministry will support the efforts of the media council and will work closely with the media owners and practitioners to promote the good work of the media as a crucial tool for nation building,” he said.
Hon. Poghisio also said he would fully support the proposed freedom of Information and ICT bills.
“I am aware that the two crucial bills will enhance free flow of information, expand the democratic space and contribute to the ICT sector which is an important pillar of the vision 2030,” said he
The minister further expressed his vision to ensure that during his tenure of office every Kenyan would be able to communicate easily and affordably using modern technology. |
